    Maria Edgeworth (1 January – 22 May ) was a prolific Anglo-Irish writer of adults' and children's literature. In her book she criticised the ideas of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Mary Wollstonecraft. She argued that her belief in female rights, encouraged women to adopt an aggressive independence.
